As a refresher from some of our previous notifications, we have partnered with TechSquare Labs (TSL) to provide life and career readiness training to the very first cohort of students enrolled in a 13-month program called CodeStart! CodeStart introduces disconnected youth and under-employed young adults (18 to 24 years of age) from Atlanta to a program that mixes “coding, entrepreneurship, career readiness and financial readiness.” CodeStart is also collaborating with The Iron Yard for a 3-month coding education (in Java), 3-month entrepreneurship and career readiness prep, and a 3-6 month internship/apprenticeship in a technical role.
We need your help! Currently, there are 17 students in CodeStart who will be looking for work placements starting in July. The long-term goal is to scale to 5,000 students of color (across Iron Yard’s 20 campuses in the US) within five years. During the entire month of July, we will be supporting the first cohort of students by hosting mock interviews for tech jobs, leading them through scenario planning exercises, increasing their writing skills, role playing, etc.
We are looking to partner with companies that have an interest in hiring unconventional students for entry level, Java programming jobs in the Atlanta Area and beyond. Our goal is to provide opportunities for the students to see and hear about real life application of the skills they are learning along with providing expert advice on how to perform well in a technical interview. We would love for you, your company or a company you know to join our efforts. If you are interested, please reach out and let us know in what capacity you can help. Thanks for your time and I want to thank you in advance for helping us provide these students with the skills they need to be successful in the future
P.S.: Please feel free to share this information with your friends and colleagues!
